Survey is one of the all-time favorite user research methods which helps researchers over decades of time. Also, during this pandemic and social distancing situation, survey is a user research method we can use to keep up our on-going research without a delay. But the question we faced with the survey is how we can make it effective to receive an accurate result out of it.
Therefore, some tips to make and effective user survey are,
1. Decide the survey learning goal upfront – What do you want to learn out of the survey? What is the result you expected out of this?
2. Write clear and simple questions – Consider your audience and speak their language.
3. Decide the right proportion of Open. Vs Closed Questions – Consider your research goal to identify the right type of questions to include.
4. Avoid being biased – Being biased will provide the result you anticipated, but it won’t be accurate.
5. Make the survey short and sweet – If the survey contains more than 10-12 questions, go for multiple surveys.
6. Prioritize the questions – This way we get answers for the most important ones, even participants quit partway through.
7. Test the survey – Always, always and always test the survey before distribution.
